SPOTLIGHT

Meet Professor Ben Zhao, the Neubauer Professor of Computer Science at the University of Chicago. He's leading the charge to protect artists' rights in the digital age with Nightshade, a tool designed to "poison" data to prevent unauthorized AI training.

Nightshade aims to protect artists from generative AI that exploits their work. It disrupts AI training by corrupting data, making it difficult for AI models to use artists' work without their permission.

Beyond Nightshade, Professor Zhao has also led the development of other tools to protect artists, such as Glaze, which shields against style mimicry, and Fawkes, an image-cloaking tool to defend against facial recognition.

To learn more about Professor Ben Zhao and his projects, follow him on LinkedIn and Quora. You can learn more about his work and research on his website.
